Former Asbury Park Mayor Joins Board at Interfaith Neighbors

Ed Johnson, a former Asbury Park mayor, has been appointed to the Board of Trustees of Interfaith Neighbors, based in Asbury Park.

“We are pleased to welcome Ed to our Board of Trustees. He brings to our Board table deep knowledge and perceptive organizational insights gained during a lifetime of service in both the public and private sectors,” said IFN Executive Director Paul McEvily. “His commitment to community and his willingness to help those less fortunate among us align perfectly with the mission of Interfaith Neighbors.”

Johnson served as Asbury Park’s mayor, a Councilman and Urban Enterprise Zone Chairman from 1998 to 2013 He is the Senior Executive Officer of Community Engagement and Executive Director of Governmental Affairs and Community Relations at Brookdale Community College in Lincroft.

Johnson, a long time Asbury Park resident, is also a Political Science adjunct faculty member at Rutgers University and Founder and President of Ed JohnsonAP International Consulting, which promotes Civic Education and Global Engagement through public policy forums, community workshops, domestic and international conferences and strategic projects.

In 2018, the Global Parliament of Mayors recognized him with an Honorary Membership for his commitment and contributions to the organization.

“I look forward to joining the Board of Trustees and working together with the team at Interfaith Neighbors as they continue to serve and help build our Community,” Johnson said.

nterfaith Neighbors is a non-profit organization founded in May 1988 when local faith communities came together to address the growing problem of homelessness in Monmouth County. IFN’s mission is to help the less fortunate among us meet life’s necessities while seeking to improve the quality of life for individuals and families and the communities in which they live.

Through the years, IFN services have grown from our flagship Rental & Mortgage Assistance program to include nutrition and healthy community initiatives, including administration of the Monmouth County Meals on Wheels program; workforce development; business and entrepreneurial development, a comprehensive neighborhood revitalization plan for Asbury Park’s southwest neighborhood, and two social enterprises – Kula Cafe and Kula Urban Farm.
