To kick off the 2021 beach season which starts Memorial Day weekend, the Asbury Park Beach Patrol has launched a Junior Guard Program to help teach beach safety and awareness to youth ages 10-15 and give participants the tools and skills necessary to become a lifeguard on the beachfront.
The six-week program will follow a curriculum developed in accordance with current Asbury Park Beach Patrol operations and the United States Lifesaving Association Standards. Junior Guards will meet from June 28 to August 6 on Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday from 7:45 to 9 a.m. The program is at no cost to residents, but proof of residency is required. For non-residents, the cost to participate is $100. The registration deadline is June 15.
“Asbury Park Beach Patrol has a long-standing tradition as one of the oldest lifeguarding agencies in the United States,” Mayor John Moor said.“We are thrilled to be able to offer our youth the opportunity to learn from the best while they gain valuable skills and build self-confidence.”
