Lawson June Jr., 81, of Asbury Park, passed away peacefully on June 8, 2021. Lawson was born July 31, 1939 in Manning, SC to Lawson and Harriett June. He was educated in the Manning School System. Lawson moved to Long Branch in the late 1950s where he became employed as a cook and rose through the ranks to Food Service Supervisor at Monmouth Medical Center.
On January 15, 1959, Lawson married Annie M. Gwynn of Reidsville, NC, and from this union came four children: Quinton, Cassandra, Karen, and Kevin. In 1968, the family moved to Asbury Park. He then became employed at Holmdel Convalescent Center, serving as the Food Service Director for over 40 years. Lawson and Ann also operated a successful catering business including special occasion cakes and pies. Lawson actively served his community through several roles including but not limited to: Asbury Park Deputy Mayor, Director of Asbury Park Citizens on Patrol, and Asbury Park Taxi Commissioner.
Lawson was predeceased in death by his parents Lawson and Harriett June; sister, Louise Servance; brother, Alphonza June. Left to cherish his memory is his wife of 61 years, Ann; sons, Quinton (Chevron), Ewing, NJ, and Kevin, Atlanta, GA; daughters, Cassandra, Atlanta, GA, and Karen, Asbury Park, NJ; sisters, Mary Wells, Baltimore, MD., Catherine Wilson, Denver, PA, Ruby Lee Gaters (Joe), Summerton, SC, Roberta Cain (Robert), Philadelphia, PA; brother, Lee June (Shirley), East Lansing, MI; grandchildren: Darya, Lashay, Tyreese, Justin and Quinton II; great-grandchildren, Amonyai and Ameii; and a host of extended family and friends.
Visitation: Tuesday, June 15, 2021, from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Ely Funeral Home, 3316 Route 33, Neptune, NJ 07753 followed by a Funeral Service. Burial at Monmouth Memorial Park, 4201 NJ-33, Tinton Falls, NJ 07753.
