Asbury Park Mayor John Moor said city hall will be closed Fri., June 18 in honor of Juneteenth which celebrates the emancipation of those enslaved in the United States. Lincoln outlawed slavery in 1862.
On June 15 the Senate unanimously passed a resolution establishing the federal holiday of Juneteenth. Asbury Park, which has been known for its celebration of diversity, is only one of a few municipalities in the state which have taken this action.
