After an abnormal start to elementary school due to Covid19 shutdowns and protocols, the PTA is hoping to give the students, with special consideration for those in kindergarten and first grade, the opportunity to get together as a community and celebrate the season.

“It’s a chance to see their friends and their friends’ parents and feel a part of the community,” said PTA member Kelly Hansen.

But the event is not limited to the school community. The public is welcome to join the fun and support the local businesses.

Among the offerings during the event will be 20 to 25 local vendors selling holiday crafts, a bounce house for the children, an obstacle course provided by Platform Training, and an opportunity for pictures with Santa Claus.

Several food trucks will be there in addition to a bakery, ice cream shop, and a hot beverage cart.

In addition to the vendors for adults, children will get the opportunity to browse and purchase a little something for their parents as well.

“There’s an (inexpensive) little holiday shop where the children can buy for their parents,” Hansen said. “We’ll also wrap up the present so the parents can’t see.”

Hansen praised the local businesses and community members for their support in putting on the event this year, thanking the “very generous sponsors that have helped us out and advertised on their social media.”

“Oakhurst Pizza is putting ads on all of their pizza boxes,” Hansen said.

Events like this don’t just happen without hard work.

“This is made possible by our generous sponsors and the tireless work of our PTA volunteers,” Hansen said.

Wanamassa Elementary School is located at 901 Bendermere Avenue, between Logan Road and Wickapecko Drive.
