Over the last two months, Asbury Park and Ocean Township police departments have seen an increase in the number of calls for service involving catalytic converter thefts from vehicles.
These thefts are occurring at all hours of the day, not only at night. In order to remove a catalytic converter, the suspect would need to be under the vehicle, cutting the converter from the vehicle using a portable saw.
Ocean Township police said at several of the thefts a black Range Rover with a New Jersey license plate has been observed.
If any resident of Ocean Township has a catalytic converter removed from their vehicle he or she is asked to make a police report to 732-531-1800.
In Asbury Park call 732-774-1300 and press 0 to reach a police dispatcher.
