A Neptune man has been charged with theft at Seaview Jeep in Ocean Township March 13.
Police said at approximately 8:30 a.m. March 13 police officers were dispatched to Seaview Jeep for a report of a theft. The reporting party advised Officer Quinn Schulhafer that a vehicle, which was offered for sale, had all four wheels removed sometime over the weekend. Schulhafer observed the vehicle, which was now being held up by bricks. He was able to review the surveillance footage from the dealership which showed the suspect enter the lot, remove the wheels and leave the scene.
Det. Steven Walker was assigned to conduct a follow up investigation on this case and was able to obtain a license plate of the vehicle used during the theft. The suspect was identified as Shawn M. Alston, 47, of Neptune and he was located by Walker along with the vehicle that was used during the commission of the crime.
Alston was placed under arrest and interviewed by detectives. Alston was charged with theft and possession of burglars tools. He was released on a summons pending an initial court appearance. The wheels were recovered by Walker and Det. Zachary Rhein and turned over to Seaview Jeep.
