Every year, the Jersey Shore Rescue Mission gives away free coats, hats, gloves, and scarves to hundreds of people in the Asbury Park community.
The mission is getting getting ready to give away winter gear again this year at the annual Coat Giveaway on Sat., Nov. 18 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the mission at 701 Memorial Dr., Asbury Park.
Anyone in need of a winter coat is welcome to attend. There will be men’s, women’s, and children’s sizes available. As the weather gets colder, we want to make sure our neighbors have the clothing they need to stay warm.
“Our annual Coat Giveaway is a time for community members, churches, corporations, and individuals to get together and collect new and lightly used coats and winter accessories for the community. Volunteers are eager to assist guests in finding just the right fit and color coat they are looking for. Our wonderful volunteers come just to make sure that each guest we serve feels cared for,” says Debbie McKenna, the mission’s events and volunteer manager.
In the weeks leading up to the giveaway event, the mission is collecting new and gently used winter coats, along with new hats, gloves, and scarves.
Winter gear can be dropped off at the thrift store at 701 Memorial Dr., Asbury Park. Donation hours are Tuesday-Saturday from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
The mission invites anyone with extra coats to donate them and anyone in need of a coat ti welcome to join the giveaway Nov. 18.
