Gregory Letizia, 35, of Asbury Park, is charged with aggravated assault, terroristic threats, unlawful possession of a weapon, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose and bias intimidation.
On Fri., Jan. 6 at approximately 3:14 p.m., members of the Asbury Park Police Department responded to the Delmonte Hotel located at 302 First Ave. for a report of a subject threatening the victim with a knife. The incident was reported by the victim as well as several others witnesses. Initial reports indicated that Letizia was acting belligerent and possibly intoxicated. Letizia was located in his room where communication was established through a locked door.
Despite numerous attempts for him to emerge, Letizia refused to comply. Due to Letizia’s non-compliance, Monmouth County Emergency Response Team (MOCERT), along with members of the Monmouth County Rapid Deployment Force (RDF) and the Monmouth County Sheriff’s Office, were requested to assist.
Shortly after MOCERT’s arrival, Letizia was taken into custody safely and without further incident. Letizia was transported to a local medical facility for evaluation prior to processing at Asbury Park Police Headquarters. Letizia was subsequently transported to the Monmouth County Correctional Institute (MCCI), where he is currently being held pending his first appearance at the Monmouth County Superior Court.
