Restaurateur Tim McLoone continues to show his support for Asbury Park with the opening of a fourth restaurant on the boardwalk.
AP Rooftop is opening literally on the roof of the Iron Whale restaurant in the Fifth Avenue Pavilion. The third floor restaurant has large glass windows with panoramic views of the ocean and surrounding area.
The restaurant is scheduled to open this week.
McLoone said AP Rooftop has a menu of Italian and Coastal Mediterranean fare, with pizza, salads, seafood, small plates and handhelds. The AP Rooftop also has a few amenities that are unique.
“It’s intended to be more of a meeting place,” McLoone said. “There is more casual furniture and it’s all glass.” There are two large fireplaces “because we don’t disappear in winter.” In addition, the restaurant will eventually service the adjacent Arthur Pryor Band Shell which McLoone is now leasing. Discussing his plans for the Band Shell, his vision for a new music venue could bring a variety of musical genres including Jazz, Country and Gospel.
“There are plenty of places to hear rock in Asbury Park,” he said.
The Bandshell ls also the home of the Asbury Park Concert Band which is into it’s 79th season. Conductor John Lukenbill leads the band every Thursday during the summer. This year, the free concerts begin July 4th at 7 PM through August 29th. Tim McLoone is sponsoring the band’s 2024 season through the Asbury Park Music Foundation..
In 2007 Tim McLoone was the first to sign a lease to open a new business on the boardwalk when he opened his Supper Club on the second floor of the former Howard Johnson’s. The first floor is now the Robinson Ale House and he also owns the Iron Whale and now AP Rooftop joins the McLoone group in Asbury Park, all in the Fifth Ave. Pavilion.
There’s access to the AP Rooftop from the boardwalk and from Ocean Ave. A stairway and an elevator are at both entrances.
