On June 16 a man and a woman were arrested for stealing the Bradley Beach Pride Flag which was displayed in Riley Park on Main Street.
Evan J. Frederick, 31, of Main Street, Bradley Beach and Ann Healy, 48, of Main Street, Avon were seen by witnesses cutting down the flag and stealing it at approximately 1 a.m.
The two then rode their bicycles to a local bar and threw the flag into a nearby garbage can. When confronted by police both subjects initially denied any involvement. They eventually, however, admitted to the theft and were placed under arrest.
The following day Frederick and Healy were brought back to headquarters for further questioning about a prior theft of two borough Pride Flags, one located on Ocean Avenue and the other in Riley Park. Subsequent to the interviews Frederick was additionally charged with the theft of both flags, which had occurred on June 5. Charges against Healy for this incident are still pending.
Frederick was ultimately charged with three counts of theft, three counts of bias intimidation and one count of criminal mischief. Healy was charged with one count of theft, one count of bias Intimidation and one count of criminal mischief. Both were released on summons pending court.
