The Tinton Falls Public Library Association recently announced plans to reopen the Tinton Falls Library after nearly seven years of closure.
Anticipated to open this fall, the library doors have remained shut due to the discovery of mold in 2017.
But after significant renovations and the collective efforts of the community, generous donations and local and state government support, the Tinton Falls Library will soon be open for business.
“This is a momentous occasion for Tinton Falls. Our library is more than just a building; it’s a community hub where knowledge and culture thrive. We are deeply grateful for the community support that has made this reopening possible, ” Rosemary Kochman, president of the Tinton Falls Library Association said.
According to Kochman, the repair project was made possible through a combination of state grants, Tinton Falls borough funds and vigorous fundraising efforts by the Tinton Falls Public Library Association. The New Jersey Library Construction Bond Act provided matching funds, demonstrating an exceptional combination of community and governmental partnership.
In total, the library received a $217,500 grant from the state and $217,500 in local funds, which were a combination of fundraising efforts of the library and the borough of Tinton Falls which had earmarked funds for the library.
“This effort stands as a testament to what we can achieve when we come together for a common goal,” Brian Perry, Library Association Vice President said.
The comprehensive repairs included the removal of the attached trailer to the library, structural repairs, interior and exterior refurbishment and the installation of a new HVAC system. These updates ensure a safe environment for all the library’s patrons and visitors.
The repairs were completed recently but the library still needs several essential elements before it can open its doors – namely books, computers, furniture and flooring. The library is no longer able to accept used books.
“The library has always been a cornerstone of our community ” Linda Cicalese, TFPLA board member said. “It’s reopening marks a new chapter in our town’s history, filled with possibilities for learning and growth.”
Ellen Goldberg, library associate fundraising chair, said, “The success of our fundraising efforts reflects the community’s commitment to the library. Each donation, big or small, has been a crucial part of bringing our vision to life. Thank you to everyone who helped support our cause, whether it was $5 or $5,000, this would not be possible without your financial support.”
Once an official date for the re-opening is set in the fall, the Tinton Falls Library Music will be inviting the community to join in celebrating the reopening.
“The event will feature tours of the library, activities for all ages and an opportunity to thank all who contributed to this remarkable project,” Goldberg said. “We look forward to seeing everyone at the library re-opening!”
