The Historical Society of Ocean Grove is set to offer an unparalleled experience for history enthusiasts and architectural admirers alike when it hosts the 55th annual House Tour Fri., Aug. 9. Scheduled from 10:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. this year’s event promises to be better than ever because attendees will have the rare opportunity to explore 10 historic homes.
Some of the homes have been completely renovated, while others have been preserved to reflect their original construction dates. The tour will include a variety of properties, from owners’ childhood homes and million-dollar mansions on Ocean Pathway to charming Victorians, Craftsman-style houses, and even oceanfront condos.
Highlights of the tour include learning which porch President Roosevelt once sat on and discovering which home’s kitchen was once a stable, among numerous other fascinating historical tidbits. In addition to the 10 homes, the tour will feature two tents, an exquisite Inn, and the historic Thornley Chapel.
The House Tour is a rain or shine event. Ensuring that participants can enjoy the experience regardless of the weather, a free hop on hop-off trolley will be available, making the circuit throughout the day.
