Two hundred to 300 people are expected to attend this year’s Tinton Falls Library Music Festival scheduled Aug. 17 from 5 to 9 p.m. at the Sycamore Avenue Recreation Complex, 977 Sycamore Avenue, in Tinton Falls.
This is the fifth year for the fundraising event for the library, closed for several years due to mold. It is expected to reopen this fall.
“When the library was shut down in 2017 due to a mold problem in the attached trailer to the library, a fundraising committee was formed to explore ways to raise matching funds after we applied for and received a grant from the state of New Jersey. The Music Festival was one of the ideas that we acted on,” Linda Cicalese, Tinton Falls Library Association Board of Trustee member said. “Another idea was the children’s fashion show in the spring. ”
The festival includes local performers who donate their time, food such as hot dogs, hamburgers, snacks, ice cream and drinks and various family friendly activities such as cornhole and Jenga. There is also a Beer Garden for adults as well as a children’s area where kids can do crafts, play bingo or go on a scavenger hunt.
“The festival is a great family place to go because we have something for all ages,” Cicalese said. “ We have been very fortunate to have had wonderful performers play for us. We have expanded our food offerings and we have received generous support from local businesses in the form of sponsorships.”
Cicalese said money raised will help pay for the replacement of furniture, carpet, office supplies and lending materials that were lost when the library was treated for mold.
“It is so thrilling to see the light at the end of a very long tunnel. Our building’s interior is fresh and clean and we can’t wait to put the finishing touches on it,” she said. “We will be getting a ‘starter’ collection of books from the Monmouth County Library System as well as computers. We are a member of the Monmouth County Library System and their support has been unbelievable. They are as excited as we are to see out library reopen.”
Tickets for the festival can be purchased online at www.tintonfallslibrary.com or at the gate. Adult tickets are $10 and children’s tickets are $5 for those five to 12 years old. Children under five are free.
