The Asbury Park Beach Patrol secured first place in the Asbury Park Lifeguard tournament held last week. The event showcased the skills and athleticism of lifeguards from six municipalities, competing in a series of challenging timed events and relays.
Among the standout performances was Shane Brennan, who clinched seconnd place in the demanding American Ironman competition, featuring a swim, paddle and solo row. The team of Noah Wilson, Nick Bongiovanni and Henry Buerck dominated the paddle relay, securing a first place for Asbury Park. Anthony Scala’s exceptional performance in the beach flags event further solidified Asbury Park’s lead.
In a closely contested battle, Asbury Park Beach Patrol accumulated 26 points, surpassing Ocean Grove with 24 points and Monmouth County Parks System with 23 points.
“We are immensely proud of Asbury Park Beach Patrol’s hard work and teamwork, which propelled us to first place in this lifeguard tournament,” said City of Asbury Park Beach Operations Supervisor Joe Bongiovanni, “While its’ a competition, the tournament also fosters camaraderie among neighboring communities.”
