Neptune Democrats have selected Jason Jones to fill the seat left vacant by Keith Cafferty on the Township Committee.
After the committee decided not to move on the three names presented to them during the previous meeting, the choice reverted back to party members to make the decision.
The three candidates were Jones, Jim Manning, a former mayor and committeeman and Derek Griggs. Jones will take over the seat left empty by the resignation of Cafferty in September.
This is Jones’ third attempt to secure a committee seat. He was one of the three finalists during the previous two vacancies left by the late Dr. Michael Brantley and Nicholas Williams. Jones has been an embattled choice due to controversy over how he left a former job as business administrator of a school district in north Jersey. He will now fill the unexpired term of 14 months. He will then be up for reelection in November 2025 if he wins the Democratic primary.
