Ocean Township police charged an Asbury Park man following attempted car burglaries in Interlaken.
Police said on Oct. 26 at approximately 4:50 a.m. officers were dispatched to a residence on Grassmere Avenue in Interlaken for a report of an attempted burglary to a vehicle. The victim reported that he observed a subject attempting to open his car door, but he was unable to do so because the vehicle was locked.
When officers arrived on scene, the accused had fled the area. Officers searched the area, but they were unable to locate the accused subject.
A few nights later, on Oct. 28 at approximately 6 a.m. officers were dispatched to multiple homes on Grassmere Avenue for several reports of attempted motor vehicle burglaries. One of the victims provided a detailed description of the accused subject who fled the area. Officers arrived on scene and located a subject matching the description given a few blocks away. The accused was taken into custody and it was confirmed that he was the person who attempted to burglarize the vehicles. The accused was transported to police headquarters for processing and he was identified as Mashon D. Wilson, 34. He was charged with several counts of attempted burglary and obstruction of justice. He was committed to the Monmouth County Correctional Institution pending an initial court appearance.
Officers Brenden Bernhard, Charles Weinkofsky, Mario Paden, Detectives Christopher Clune, Zachary Rhein and Sergeant Michael Melody were involved.
