A 1962 graduate of Asbury Park High School was honored recently for his 50 years of scientific research of RNA.
Dr. Paul F. Agris was recognized at a recent annual symposium of the RNA Institute at SUNY Albany. Agris is the founding director of the institute.
Dr. Agris is the leading authority ion the specialized field of RNA research. During the past year he was the keynote speaker at an International RNA conference in Greece.
He is an inductee in the Asbury Park High School Hall of Fame and graduated from Bucknell University before earning a Ph.D from M.I.T.
Gris also did post graduate work at Yale University and sabbaticals at Oxford and Cambridge.
He has written and co-written almost 200 scientific articles which have appeared in such prestigious journals as Sciwncw and Nature.
Along with being the co-founding editor of the journal RNA Biology, he has edited three books and has charters in six others.
Currently Agris has nine patents with three more pending.
Agris, who is the youngest of three sons of the late Evelyn Rokaw of Asbury Park, attended the Bond Street School.
He has been married for 50 years to the former Joyce Friedman of Wanamassa.
