The “new” Boston Way Village is ready for construction to begin in Asbury Park.

The former seven building complex was demolished in October.

Interim Executive Director of the Asbury Park Housing Authority, Thomas Sahlin, and Chairman Gregory Hopson Sr. met at the New Jersey Housing Mortgage Finance Agency in  Trenton on Feb. 22 for the financial closing that will enable construction to begin on the project.

A release from the APHA states that the authority will be working with Errol Shorter and Associates, who will coordinate with the General Contractor (AJD) to ensure local hiring and local vendor contracting opportunities are available for the qualified pre-screened Asbury Park Housing Authority and local residents per HUD Section 3 regulations.

Boston Way, before it was vacated, had 123 units. All residents were given housing vouchers to relocate in 2014.

The new $28 million Boston Way project will have 104, one, two and three bedroom townhouses, landscaping, walkways and lighting. The new residential units will be located at the same site as the former one off Memorial Drive.

All former residents will have the right of first refusal for the new housing when it is completed.

The project, once underway, is estimated to take 18 months to complete.
