bike_wheel2A bicycle share program in Asbury Park that started in late summer was a success according to figures released by Zagster, the program’s provider.

Membership in the program reached 646 leading to 1248 trips taken.

The total time riders traveled was 202,807 minutes or 3380  hours.

By Zagster’s calculations the bike riding offset 33,801 pounds of carbon dioxide emissions.

The breakdown of riders was 47.54 percent male and 52.46 percent female.

By age the largest group of riders was between 18 and 27 years with 32.1 percent.

The next group was 28 to 37 year olds at 28.4 percent; 38 to 47 year olds with 14.8 percent; 48 to 57 percent at 18.1 percent and those 58 years and older 7.2 percent.

Zagster’s estimates that the median trip was 38 minutes with most rentals being in September with 563 and going down to 35 in December.

Overall there were 1215 rentals by all member types with 64.9 percent using the hourly plan and 35.1 percent from annual memberships.

Not surprisingly, Saturday and then Sunday had the most rentals.
