Fire Causes Extensive Damage to Ocean Grove Home

An early morning fire in an Ocean Grove Victorian-style house on Fri., Feb. 1 brought several fire departments responding to the scene.

The two-story home, at 31 Webb Ave., sustained extensive fire, smoke and water damage, fire officials said. The home was not occupied at the time. A nearby home at 33 Webb Ave., also had some exterior damage.

Ocean Grove Fire Department Chief Benjamin Benfer was the incident commander in charge of the scene and fire departments from Neptune, Asbury Park and Wall also responded to the call, which came in just after midnight.

“Upon arriving at the scene, police were already evacuating residents from the house and alerting their neighbors,” fire department public information officer David Shotwell said. “The fire was burning the siding on the house at 33 Webb Ave and we extinguished that and then knocked down the fire in the other house. There is extensive damage to both stories at the house

Firefighters left the scene about 6 a.m. and the cause of the fire in under investigation.
