The Question is…

The event is aimed at expressing opposition to offshore oil drilling and in support of a clean energy future. It begins at the gazebo near Fifth and Ocean Avenues in Bradley Beach at 11 a.m. Participants will all join hands at the water’s edge at noon for 10 minutes after remarks by elected official starting at 11:30 a.m.

Congressman Chris Smith and Frank Pallone, State Senator Vin Gopal, Assemblywoman, Joanne Downey, Bradley Beach Mayor Gary Engelstad, supporters of Clean Ocean Action, Sierra Club and Surfrider Foundation have all been invited.

The event is planned to show opposition to offshore oil and gas drilling and in support of a clean energy future.

For 10 years ocean lovers, elected leaders, and businesses dependent on clean water and healthy beaches have participated in Hands Across the Sand to oppose offshore oil exploration and seismic testing. The event is also in support of a clean energy future.

Despite the Obama Administration deciding that their 5-Year oil and gas leasing plan through 2022 would contain very little new drilling, the Trump Administration unveiled a plan to drill in 90 percent of US waters. A draft plan was submitted and public comments were taken on this new plan. But lawsuits were filed opposing the idea of a new plan while the previous administration’s plan was still in effect. A recent judge’s ruling has put the current Administration’s drilling plans on hold although they are not formally withdrawn.
