The Neptune City Family Foundation will host a dance for Woodrow Wilson School students Fri., May 4  at the Community Center.

“After our last dance in February, which was open to students in grades six through eight, we found that it was so well attended it made sense to open it up to more students,” said Alexander Tallman, who helped start the foundation.

Woodrow Wilson students in grades five through eight are invited to attend the event, which is being organized in collaboration with the Woodrow Wilson PTO and the community center.

The dance will last from 7 to 9 p.m. and feature music by DJ Rain, food provided by Shore Good Eats N’ Treats and door prizes. A Snapchat geotag will be created so that students can tag themselves as being at the dance, said Tallman, a Woodrow Wilson graduate and current borough councilman.

“We feel it’s important to try and build a sense of community among the students and families here in town,” Tallman said. “One of the ways that we’d like to try and do that is through providing after-school activities for all the [Woodrow Wilson] students.”

The foundation recently sponsored a readathon program in conjunction with the school and the Wilson Boosters Club.

“With the readathon wrapping up, we wanted to ensure that we were staying active and relevant for these kids,” Tallman said. “When I graduated from Wilson we had a lot more offered to us in terms of after school programs, activities, etc. We feel it’s our responsibility to try and fill in where we are able.”
