Robert T. Carroll, 64, of Shark River Hills, Neptune died at Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune Saturday, Feb 4th, after a long battle with cancer.

 The eldest son of Robert F. and Doris Carroll, Robert spent his early years in Freehold, NJ. In 1962, his family relocated to Asbury Park, where he worked on the boardwalk in the summers. He graduated from Holy Spirit Grammar Schoolin Asbury Park and then went on to Asbury Park High School. After graduation he  He continued his studies at Rutgers University in New Brunswick, NJ, and received his MBA there. Robert also became a Certified Public Accountant(CPA), working at various firms in and around the Monmouth County area.

 In 1986, he opened his own CPA office on Main Street in Asbury Park, where he practiced up until December. He sold his business to Maldjian & Citta PC of Manasquan. Robert enjoyed his runs on the boardwalk in Belmar and participated in the Spring Lake Five many times. For the years he couldn’t run, he continued to collect the shirts from each years’ race to add to his collection. Robert was a Boy Scout Leader and avid motorcyclist, having traveled the country many times with his motorcycle buddies.

He was also a member of the Friends of Shooting gun club and a pretty good poker player.  He was an avid bowler and member of the Thursday Night Bankers Bowling League in Bradley Beach for more than 15 years. He served as treasurer for them for five years. Over the last few years he often sang karaoke at various bars and restaurants. His signature song was “Take On Me” by Aha.

Rob, as he was called by  his family and friends, was known for his good nature and his humor and was loved by his family, friends, and clients.

Although he could run five mile races without a problem he could not outrun the cancer that took him.

Special thanks to Dr. Angelo Chinnici of Asbury Park who made house calls to visit Rob at his mom’s home.

 Robert was predeceased by his father, Robert F. Carroll, and one of his younger brothers, Thomas C. Carroll, who lost his own battle with cancer in 2010. He is survived by his beloved mother, Doris, Asbury Park, his only son, Daniel, of Philadelphia, PA. , also his two sisters, Ellen Carroll of Neptune, and Marianne Tantrum and her husband, David, of Oakhurst, two brothers, Patrick and his wife Lama, of Holyoke, MA, and Christopher and his wife Carmen, of Little Silver and his sister-in-law Cheryl Carroll of Tinton Falls. He will also be missed by his many nieces and nephews, including James and Michael Butler, Samantha and Stephanie Carroll, Rebecca and Erin Carroll, and Niall and Molly Tantrum.

 Visitation will be on Thursday, Feb. 9th, at Buckley Funeral Home on Second Avenue in Asbury Park from 4 to 8 p.m. A memorial Mass will be held Fri., Feb. 10 at 10 a.m. at Holy Spirit Church, Second Avenue, Asbury Park.
