The multi-generational Ladies Auxiliary of the Ocean Grove Auditorium Ushers 2016 fundraising season is underway. On June 23 the membership attended their annual “Welcome Coffee” at the Youth Temple. The current officers and committee chairs were introduced, with many addressing the meeting attendees about their specific projects.

Camp Meeting Association President Dr. Dale Whilden described the Ladies Auxiliary as “the epitome of volunteerism”, going strong for seventy-two years, and expressed his appreciation for the many improvements to Ocean Grove that have been financed through the funds raised by this organization. He cited the carillon bells, flower beds, restoration of Thornley Chapel, renovation of the Great Auditorium’s pastor’s study/meeting room, among other projects, and he concluded by saying, “Thank you for all you do.”

Tara Higgins, President of the Ladies Auxiliary, spoke of the group’s history. She cited all of the living past presidents, many of whom were in attendance, with personal comments for each.

Thornley Chapel was to have received new doors through the Ladies Auxiliary donations; however, they were advised by the Historical Society of Ocean Grove that new doors were unacceptable — the current doors were to be refinished. “We had enough funds to redo the other doors to their natural beauty”, Higgins said.
