Ocean Township’s Mayor’s Cup Golf Tournament held recently brought in sports celebrities and about 70 other people to challenge each other at the Hollywood Golf Course.
Ocean Township Mayor Christopher Siciliano said that former NY Giants football players Otis OJ Anderson, a star running back, and Stephen Baker, a wide receiver known as “the touchdown maker,” played in the event.
“We are very appreciative these players come down and support our fundraiser. They have a good time and hang out with the guys and it’s lot of fun. They come down and play and don’t ask for anything- they do it to support our cause,” Mayor Christopher Siciliano said.
The tournament hosted 18 four-member golf teams, or 72 players. The mayor’s team, that included Anderson, local resident Kyle Ross, and attorney Martin Arbus won the tournament.
The $5,000 raised from the event was donated to the township’s Community Hope Fund, which helps families in need. The organization also gives out Thanksgiving turkeys to hundreds of needy families in Ocean and also make Christmas a better holiday for many families.
The golf tournament began under former Mayor William F. Larkin. Siciliano said this is his fourth year hosting the event.
