coaster-news-200Approaching three years after Super Storm Sandy came ashore in New Jersey we still find families displaced from their homes and others working to get their lives back in order.

This week, Recovery Along the River Foundation, Inc., made its second disbursement of funds to affected families. Recovery Along the River Foundation, Inc., is a non-profit foundation formed in 2013, after Sandy, whose sole purpose was to raise funds and awareness for affected families and businesses in the Shark River Hills section of Neptune.

Michelle Erbe, Foundation Chairwoman and KC Dempsey, Vice Chairwoman, announced that 51 families will receive $500 gift cards from the Foundation. The funds were raised over the past two years from River Concert 2014 and the two Run the Hills 5K events held in 2014 and 2015.

Since its inception in 2013, Recovery Along the River Foundation, Inc., has disbursed over $70,000 to affected families.

Erbe, whose family was displaced by Sandy, said “Recovery wants to thank all of the sponsors and volunteers who have helped the Foundation over the past three years.” Dempsey, who created a support group for the affected families, added, “The work of the Foundation is not yet finished as families continue with the recovery process, some just beginning their home elevation projects.”

In the coming months, Recovery Along the River Foundation will again host a holiday tree lighting event at Volunteer Park, Wednesday, December 2, 6 pm to 8 pm. And, the third annual Run the Hills 5K, will be held on Sunday, May 1, Volunteer Park, beginning at 8 am. Participants and sponsors are being sought for both events.
