As the spooky season kicks off, the Neptune City Board of Recreation is in full swing to help create a scary good time for borough residents. One of their newest Halloween events is a Pumpkin Carving and Pet Costume Contest which they added this year for families to enjoy together.
“The Board of Recreation has a goal to provide fun, low cost and free events for everyone,” Borough Council President and Co-Liaison to the Neptune City Board Brian Thomas said. “The pumpkin carving contest will take place on Fri., Oct. 13 at 5:30 p.m. at Memorial Park. There will be judging and prizes for the event. ”
The other Halloween event is the Trunk or Treat at the Cone Zone in Neptune City on Sun., Oct. 29 from 6 to 8 p.m. The event is a partnership with the Board of Recreation, the Cone Zone and the borough of Neptune City. To register your car for the event email nj.conezone@gmail.com. Trunks should arrive by 5:30pm.
Thomas said that the Board of Recreation is always looking for fresh ideas and have a list of future events. Recreation members are Tom Adcock, Chuck Mitchell, Deborah Galindo, Justin Smith, Jane Connor, Sue Elmer and Kate Thomas.
“Some of the newest events include the pumpkin decorating contest as well as live music shows at Memorial Park. There is more in store but they are always open to ideas from residents as well,” he said.
According to Thomas, the Board of Recreation is a group of residents who want to see more family fun activities.
“They want to create that for residents, something many of us can remember and have fond memories of,” he added. “They host dances, have Kayak races, have rec basketball and sports equipment swaps.”
There are also several events planned for next month. The second Annual Fall Food Truck Festival has been rescheduled to Nov. 4 at noon at Memorial Park. The Neptune City “Friendsgiving” will be announced soon. Hosted by Councilman Scott Dellett and Councilman Dana Farley, the dinner is a way of spreading holiday joy with their veterans and senior citizens in town.
