The Asbury Park Environmental and Shade Tree Commission and the Women’s March Asbury Park are hosting an Earth Day beach sweep and creative protest April 22 when they hope enough people will show up to form letters and make a message in the sand.
Both groups said this week that 222 people had registered so far, but more are needed to send a larger message.
Organizers say it will take about seven to 10 volunteers to form each each letter box.
The various suggested words are prioritized as: 1. FUND EPA- 325- 350 people ideally; 2. RISE UP- 300 people; 3. ASBURY PARK.
The idea is to spell out Asbury Park with 10 letter boxes marked off with cones. If not enough people show up they will set up seven boxes and spell out 1 and 2.
The group estimates 50 to 65 people per letter are needed and are asking those interested to get the word out and share on social media.
