Neil Narcisse, 29, of Neptune loves hot sauce, but when he ran out of sauce at home, he decided to try his hand at making his own. That was four years ago.
Today he is the founder and owner of Shore Sauce, a business he still runs out of his home but is now selling his sauces around New Jersey and beyond.
With some financial help from his mother Marie, a home health aide, Narcisse now has four flavored sauces being sold under the names Mango, Pineapple, Sunset and Sunrise. The recipes are his own but Narcisse said he works with a company in Bloomfield to make and package the products since he can’t afford to rent commercial space to do it himself.
Narcisse said the biggest challenge now is getting “shelf space” in retail stores, but Shore Sauces are now available locally at Cookman Creamery in Asbury Park, Dutch Hill Farm in Spring Lake, Grossman’s Deli in Ocean Township, Pulp on Summerfield Avenue in Asbury Park, and Josie’s Good Eats in Bradley Beach. The big markets are the hardest for Narcisse who says. “I’m trying,” adding “I’m confident in the product.
According to the company website, www.shoresauce.com , Shore Sauces are excellent for seasoning or marinade with vegetables, fish and meats. They can be used as a dip for cheese and crackers, in dressing for salads and veggie platters and sandwiches and to add flavoring to soups, broth, sauces and gravy.”
Narcisse grew up in Asbury Park and graduated from the Academy Charter High School and attended Brookdale Community College for a year, left school but returned and earned an Associate Degree in business administration. He now spends more time on the road selling his sauces at markets and trade shows, including the recent Greater Ocean Township Chamber of Commerce EXPO.
Narcisse points with pride to two recent awards won by his sauces. Pineapple Sauce taking second place at a festival in California and the Sunset Sauce winning second place at the High River Hot Dog Festival in New York. Shore Sauces can be ordered online and you can follow them @ShoreSauce on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter.
