150 Attend Interlaken Board of Education Meeting

  Interlaken residents remained split regarding a recent school tax increase and the issue was once again the topic at the Board of Education meeting, which about 150 people attended Sept. 23. Residents packed the Allenhurst Fire House to learn more, or to complain or support, a recent move by the Board of Education to offer the first-ever education option for borough students and their parents. Ocean Names First Ever Police Chaplain

  Father Andrew Eugenis, of St. George Greek Orthodox Church, was sworn in last week as the Ocean Township police department’s first police chaplain. “Father Eugenis is a dynamic person and a great community leader and it is a great honor to have him be a part of the Ocean Township police department,” Mayor William F. Larkin said. Larkin said Father Eugenis, who is also a chaplain with the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, will offer counseling and support for the police department. Deal Swears In New Police Officer

  Nicholas C. Dowling was sworn in as a probationary police officer in Deal last week after previously serving as a special officer and dispatcher. “Dowling’s position was created by the promotion of Sgt. Ronan Neuman as the new police chief after the retirement of Police Chief Stephen Carasia,” said Borough Administsrator. “He fills a very important role in the patrol capabilities of the borough.” Dowling, 25, has a Bachelor’s of Science degree from Jersey City University with a minor in professional security. Sylvania Avenue salon in Neptune City at 6 a.m. By then, she’s already had a workout at the nearby Retro Fitness center where she generally starts her daily routine. The man has a deep passion for the art of Argentine Tango and has brought it here to the Jersey Shore in the hopes to one-day make Asbury Park the center of the Jersey Shore Tango Community. Avon Makes Burglaries Arrests

  With the arrest of an adult and two teenagers Sept. 15, Avon Police have closed a four-month burglary investigation. Estafan Magana, 19, and two minors, all from Asbury Park, were arrested. Magana was charged with several counts of burglary, theft of property, criminal trespassing and criminal mischief. Charges are pending against the two minors. On Sun., Sept. 16 Avon Police Officers Timothy McGrath and Dave Barry responded to Roosevelt Avenue to handle a reported residential burglary. Anti-Crime March, Door-to-Door Campaign Planned in City

  Dozens of Asbury Park residents gathered on Washington Avenue Sept. 16 for a rally, held at the site of recent shootings, in an effort to help stem the tide of violence in the city. “The guy that killed my son is still walking the streets. I want to get out of here and I feel my city does not care,” said Lavonne Walker, mother of 20-year-old Terrel Howard, who was murdered in August on the exact spot where Monday’s rally was held. Sean Lennon to Perform in Asbury Park

  Sean Lennon, the only son of former Beatle John Lennon and Yoko Ono, will perform at The Saint in Asbury Park on Friday, Sept. 27 and club co-owner Scott Stamper said he could not be more pleased. “It’s really an honor to have Sean perform here- to have the son of rock and roll royalty in the house,” he said.
