The Coaster asked these Shore-area residents “What is your theory on the missing Malaysian airplane?” and here are their replies:

Vallorie & Terry Wilson, Eatontown - We think it’s landed somewhere. We think it was hijacked. Somebody probably has an idea that they are going to use it again for something, Nobody hijacks an airplane just to fly it into the ocean.

Shirley Bailey, Oakhurst - So far, we haven’t heard that it crashed, so there’s still hope for those on board. What’s behind it all? We don’t know yet. With all the technology these days, it’s hard to believe they can’t find it.

Devin Buckley, Tinton Falls - I have no idea where that plane went. It could have landed and been stripped for parts. It could have been repurposed and used for something else. There’s all sorts of things that could have happened. But you have to wonder where are all the people? It was a big plane. You couldn’t just shove it into a garage.

Florence Foti, Bradley Beach & Jim Sita, Jersey City - We were watching Good Morning America this morning (Sunday) and they are now looking at sabatoge or pilot suicide. If so how tragic for all those families, whatever happened, it’s tragic. In 2014, how can you not find a plane that large? In this day and age big brother watches everything. The Malaysian Government should have probably asked for help sooner. This is a worldwide problem.

Linda Hopkins, Oakhurst - Well, it’s like an episode of ‘Lost’ isn’t it? I believe that somewhere they will find the pieces. I doubt if anyone is alive. The only thing I can think of is possible terrorism, especially since the cell phones were still ringing when people called. The pinging from the radar detectors were still going off.

Rhiannon Long, Dean’s - I just hope the whole theory about the plane being hijacked and the passengers tortured to death isn’t true I really have no idea as to where that wound up. And they have the best people in the world looking for this plane and they can’t find it.

Maureen Marshall, Shrewbury - I’m thinking the plane was hijacked and the pilot had something to do with it. And the two guys with the phony passports were in on it, too. I’m thinking the plane is someplace they’re not looking. It’s hard to believe they can’t find a huge airplane. I feel sorry for all those missing.

Jack Pitzer, Asbury Park - I don’t have a theory. It’s a promo for the next season of “Lost” that hasn’t been announced yet.

Lorin Schiavo, Ocean - It certainly looks like someone hijacked it. Somebody got into the cockpit and took over the plane. It probably went down in the ocean somewhere. You couldn’t land a plane like that on dry land without a huge runway. It doesn't look good for those on board, but we can hope and pray.
