You can super-size your soda and maybe a whole lot more – like your liberal expectations – in NYC now that Mayor Bloomberg is history. Given the large number of Asbury Park and Shore area residents who also call the Big Apple home, we thought it a good time three months or so months after inauguration day to ask, “What do you think of New York Mayor Bill de Blasio?” Replies below. Take a big gulp…
Lea Tallarico, Ocean – I like him. I think he’s going to turn out to be an excellent mayor. Right now people are unhappy but in the long run I think he’ll be a hit. He has compassion. He really cares about those who need it.
Katrina Barnett, Asbury Park – I used to live in the Bronx. I moved here in September. When he was running I kind of liked him with the family and all. I pay attention to the news and I don’t like what I see. He’s closing charter schools and they need them over there. He’s trying, but don’t say what you want us to hear to get elected, and once you’re elected you change.
Joan Cambria, Rumson – I fully support the mayor’s stand on ending the cruel practice of using horses for horse carriages in the streets of NYC. Don’t back down!
Sal deStefano, Ocean Grove – I think it’s too soon to tell. I’m keeping an open mind. Give him a year and I’ll know better.
Alex & Marco Lopez, Asbury Park – We think that he did a really great job in marketing himself but unfortunately, he’s not nearly as good on the job as he was in marketing.
Karan & Michael Manna, Interlaken – We think he used his son to get him elected. It was exploiting his son, and we’re not good with that. Other than that, we don’t know much about him. Bloomberg is going to be a hard act to follow.
Tamara & Dave Ostrazewsaki, Asbury Park – We’re both public employees. Tamara is a teacher and Dave is a mailman in town. We feel what he is trying to do with the public schools is a good thing Public schools are trying very hard to give children a proper education New York’s school are much like Asbury Park, with the diversity. Taxing the rich is a good idea to help pay for programs, but it probably won’t go through.
Rosalind Panepento, Ocean Grove – I’m registered to vote in New York City. I voted for him. People are too quick to judge. New York is getting to be a tale of two cities. It’s impossible for the middle class to survive.
Pedro Pinho, Asbury Park & Ryan Tomaine, Ocean – We think he’s a dumbass. Really. First thing he did was close down charter schools which are good schools. Dumb move. Do something positive instead of destroying education.
Sandra Sowis, Allenhurst – Well, I think he’s doing a fine job. He’s my kind of guy – grass roots. I expect New york City to continue to be the great city it is. Also, I think he looks out for the average guy.
