coaster-news-200More than 250 runners and walkers have registered to date for the first annual “Run the Hills” 5K, which will be held on Sun., May 4 beginning at 9 a.m. in the Shark River Hills section of Neptune.

The run is being sponsored by Recovery Along the River, a local foundation that has been instrumental in supporting the rebuilding needs of residents impacted by Superstorm Sandy.

In addition to the 5K run, there will be a two mile non-competitive walk.

The $30 registration fee includes the post-race party. Limited quantities of tee shirts are available for registrations received after April 25. Same day registrations will be at Volunteer Park at 155 South Riverside Dr.

“We have exceeded our expectations for the number of participants in our first annual event,” said K.C. Dempsey, board member of the Recovery Along the River Foundation.

“We’re looking forward to a great day as the runners and walkers join us along South Riverside Drive and the rest of the race course to experience the progress and the work yet to be done in Shark River Hills.”

The fast, flat race course will feature scenic Shark River views along South Riverside Drive.

Local businesses sponsoring the race, include: Gold Level: Pete and Elda’s/Carmine’s Pizza; JCFL Properties; A+ Powerwashing; Silver Level: Neptune Township Education Association; Leon S.
