The 70th season of the Asbury Park Concert Band is underway with concerts every Thursday through August 27 on the boardwalk between McLoone’s and Convention Hall at Ocean and Fifth Avenues. The free concerts start at 7 p.m. under the direction of John Luckenbill.
One of the highlights of recent concert seasons has been the addition of Young Adult Concerts which will again this year feature shore area students playing alongside the adult musicians four times this summer, on July 9 and 23 and August 13 and 27.
Luckenbill said each concert has a theme and the themes for this year are:
July 9 “Broadway”
July 16 “Jazz Night”
July 23 “Salute to the Animals,”
July 30 “Many Colors”
August 6 “Jazz Night featuring Dorian Parreott’s Jazz All-Stars
August 13 “The Numbers Game”
August 20 “More Broadway”
August 27 “Fifty States”
The concerts are free and are held rain or shine. They receive support from the Asbury Park Musical Heritage Foundation, the Music Performance Trust Fund, McLoone’s Restaurants and Investor’s Bank. Contributions from the public are also accepted.
