Puryear have won three-year terms on the Board of Education after running unopposed in Tuesday’s election. William S. Wells ran unopposed for a one-year unexpired term.

Puryear was top vote-getter with 656 votes, or 32.83 percent. Moss was the next top vote-getter with 654 votes, or 32.73 percent, while Jones garnered 635 votes, or 31.7 percent. There were 53 write-in votes.

Wells received 629 votes, or 98.28 percent since there were also 11 write-in votes.

Voters also approved the total $94.4 million budget, with a $36.8 million tax levy, by 476 votes, or 61.74 percent, to 295 votes, or 38.26 percent, cast against it.

The budget results in a $22 increase for the average home assessed at $288,200. The school tax rate will increase from $1.027 to $1.035 for each $100 of assessed valuation, or from about $2,960 to $2,982 for the average home.
