The Asbury Park Chamber of Commerce has named Sylvia Sylvia-Cioffi of Ocean Township as the new executive director.

Outgoing Director, Jackie Pappas, shared her “excitement in having found a wonderfully experienced, passionate and energetic longtime fan of Asbury Park to fill the roll.” Pappas noted that, “Sylvia’s experience working with municipal government, local non-profits and the Board of Education will serve her well as she continues the Chamber’s mission to connect businesses, tourism, our youth and the community.”

Chamber President Roy Werts described Sylvia as a “great addition to a strong team”. He thanked Director Pappas for all that has been accomplished under her leadership of the Chamber and Assistant Matt Whelan for his efforts in assisting with the transition.

Sylvia Sylvia-Cioffi said she is thrilled at the opportunity.

“As a lifelong Jersey Shore resident, it’s been exhilarating to watch the renaissance of Asbury Park,” she said. “The prospect of being a part of its ongoing growth and energy is truly an honor. I’m thrilled to have the opportunity of continuing the magnificent work Jackie Pappas has accomplished with the Chamber.”

The new director began her tenure on Mon., Aug. 15 and will overlap with outgoing Director Pappas until mid September after the Chamber-hosted Oysterfest.

Cioffi, who lives in the Colonial Terrace section of Ocean Township, has been on the Board of Education in Ocean for seven years and ran unsuccessfully for Township Council in the last election.

She began her career after college working in an advertising agency in New York City but found it unfulfilling and returned to the shore to work for the non-profit Family and Children’s Service for 20 years, taking a break to raise her three children.

Cioffi said she did publicity and community outreach for FCS.

Other experience includes working at Financial Solutions in Ocean Township.

“I think my experience in finance, advertising, publicity and outreach helped (getting the position),” she said.

As she starts her new endeavor Cioffi said being trained by Pappas, who took her on a tour of the city, will help make the transition smoother.

“I’ve only worked with her for one day and I’m already going to miss her,” she said.

The Asbury Par Chamber of Commerce currently has 300 members and hosts the largest consumer events in the city. For more information contact www.asburyparkchamber.com.
