Street light improvements on Seaview Island, in the Shark River, and Neptune’s participation in such an upgrade was a subject brought up at this week’s Township Committee meeting.
Seaview Island residents, who live within two condominium associations, want to upgrade the island’s street light to better match the nautical theme of the island in the Shark River, with a marina.
The cost of the new fixtures would be paid for by the condominium associations and the new LED lighting would “reduce significantly” costs for the township to provide the power, Township Business Administrator Vito Gadaleta said.
However, the outer road, or the perimeter road around the island, is a municipal road and does not belong to the associations.
“It is a great improvement in the overall appearance and will improve the lighting on the island. The association will purchase the lights and poles and (the township) will install them. The associations are also responsible to maintain the lights,” he said.
Gadaleta said he will prepare a cost estimate for the project.
Township Attorney Gene Anthony said the proposal sounds fair since the township has a municipal services agreement with the condominium associations anyway.
He suggested the township needs to “spell out” the terms when any arrangement is made.
