At approximately 10:30 p.m. the Neptune Township Police Department responded to a 911 call reporting shots fired and a barricaded subject at 10 Ridge Ave, in the township. The Monmouth County Emergency Response Team (MOCERT) was notified and responded to the scene along with surrounding agencies.

Hostage negotiators convinced the subject to surrender who was then identified as 33-year-old Bruce Rice of 10 Ridge Ave, Neptune.

A 12 gauge shotgun and 6 spent shotgun shells were located inside the residence.

Rice is charged with fourth degree Aggravated Assault, fourth degree Obstruction, third degree Terroristic Threats, third degree Possession of a Firearm for an Unlawful Purpose and second degree Certain Persons not to Possess a Firearm.

Rice is incarcerated and bail was set by Monmouth County Superior Court Judge Honora O’Brien Kilgallen at $300,000 with a no 10 percent option. Rice is not to return to the scene and no victim contact is an additional condition of bail. Rice is not yet represented.
