coaster-news-200-newNeptune Police Officer John Jackson Jr., 48, of Tinton Falls died Wed., Dec. 6.  There appears to be nothing suspicious and there is no public threat connected to his death. The cause and manner of death will be determined by the Middlesex County Regional Medical Examiner’s Office.

It is with deep sorrow and regret that we announce the death of one of our active police officers who died this morning while off-duty, said Neptune Township Police Chief James M. Hunt, Jr.

He was a 19-year veteran police officer.

“Police Officer Jackson was an integral part of our law enforcement team and a member of our family at-large. His death is shock to us all, and we offer our full support and condolences to his family, friends and colleagues,” Hunt said.

Jackson, who would have celebrated 20 years on the job on Jan. 6, 2018, was a decorated police officer. He was awarded numerous citations over his career, including a commendation from the Washington, DC-based Terrorist Screening Center for his work in identifying a known or suspected terrorist while in performance of his duty on May 6, 2010; recognition from the State of New Jersey Division of Highway Traffic Safety 2010 Top Gun DWI Enforcement Program for his dedication to apprehending drunk and impaired drivers; and a 2010 Distinguished Service Award from Mothers Against Drunk Driving.

“Every day, as an Officer, you have made a profound difference with your outstanding service in answering the needs of your community. Your unceasing dedication to the lifesaving efforts of keeping our roads safe from the impaired driver and underage drinker, is an inspiration to everyone… It is our goal to ensure your realization of how greatly you matter to us, and to your community,” MADD cited in presenting his award.

He also received numerous letters of commendation and appreciation from the police department leadership, his peers and the community.

Police Officer Jackson was a lifetime member of the Ocean Grove lifeguards, a member of the Ocean Grove Fire Department, an active member of St. Paul’s United Methodist Church in Ocean Grove and a United States Navy Veteran.

“Police Officer Jackson’s presence in the community and within our ranks will be deeply missed,” Hunt said.

“We ask for time to mourn our loss and the passing of this dedicated officer,” he said. “It is imperative that Police Officer Jackson’s family, friends and colleagues have the opportunity to grieve privately.”
