College Achieve Greater Asbury Park Public School has opened its new campus at 508 Third Avenue.
The school has an additional location at Grand Avenue. The new building will house more than 200 students in grades kindergarten through second grade. For the remainder of this school year, however, it will be only through first grade.
In the 2018/2019 school year classes will expand to second grade.
The new facility will include over 17,000 square feet of learning space, including a 2,000 square foot play room, classrooms, a kitchen, cafeteria and office space.
“We are thrilled to open the doors of our new elementary school to current and future students, families and faculty,” said Jodi McInerney, founding principal of College Achieve Greater Asbury Park Public School. “This renovated space will better enable us to serve our youngest students in an inspiring and fun-filled learning environment.”
The tuition-free charter school’s mission is to provide a high-quality public school education that prepares every single scholar to excel in, and graduate from, top universities in the country.
The academic program emphasizes writing — a model embraced by the top K-12 private schools in the nation. College Achieve Greater Asbury Park also doubles the amount of time devoted to science instruction, placing all students – including those in kindergarten – in lab classes where they run their own science experiments.
“On behalf of the Board of Directors, our entire network is pleased to offer a new learning space that is intentionally focused on serving our youngest students in the greater Asbury Park region,” said Michael Piscal, founder and chief executive officer of College Achieve. “This permanent facility will give our campus teams, students and families room to grow.”
The College Achieve school provides before- and after-school care as well as free busing to and from the school.
“As a working mom in Asbury Park, I love College Achieve and I find the after-school program to be a phenomenal resource for my family,” said parent and board member Marilyn Schlossbach. “The connection to the local Boys & Girls Club allows my girls to go to the Club over breaks and the summer. The low cost is great, and for many families it is free if you qualify.”
College Achieve Greater Asbury Park Charter School opened in 2017 enrolling over 280 students in grades K, 1, 5 and 6. Currently the school is enrolling grades K, 1, 2 and 5, 6, 7.
The school will grow to over 1,000 students in pre-K through grade 9 by 2020.
