Save Asbury’s Waterfront urges residents to attend the Asbury Park Planning Board meeting Mon., Sept. 9 at 7 p.m. at City Hall in Asbury Park. The waterfront preservation group SAW, whose mission is “A Beach and Boardwalk for All,” has retained environmental attorney Stuart Lieberman to object to iStar’s plans to build private beach club east of Ocean Avenue, between Sixth and Seventh Avenues.
At previous board meetings, iStar has presented plans for the 25,000 square foot private beach club that include a ground floor with a 100-foot-long, 4-foot-deep swimming pool; 17 cabanas; restrooms; an outdoor grill area; lounge chairs, and a rooftop deck. Pricing for membership has not yet been revealed. Plans do not include any off-street parking. Some residents and visitors said they believe the additional parking needs will exacerbate parking problems in the city.
At next week;s meeting it is believed testimony from iStar’s landscape architect and planner will be heard.. The public has the opportunity to question plans for iStar’s membership- based pool club and make their questions and concerns known.
