Here at The Coaster we discussed what we have been watching and listening to while at home. Here are some of the comments….
Ed Salvas, Reporter: My one regular activity is following the economic story in the Wall Street Journal, I’ve also been watching YouTube videos of Jazz guitar great “Bucky” Pizzarelli who died last week at 94. I saw him play with P. J..Rasmussen’s band at Langosta Lounge a few years ago. Watched the movie “Bombshell” about Fox News. Also on YouTube, videos about ZOOM video conferencing which was used by APTV for the Council meeting.
Don Stine, Reporter: I watch the news but can only take it in doses. Otherwise I watch educational channels, like History or Smithsonian, but I also have learned to enjoy watching reruns of oldies, like “Gunsmoke,” “Bonanza” and “The Rifleman”- shows I grew up with, very nostalgic.
Karan Clawson, Bookkeeper: I’m watching the news and “The Good Doctor.” I am listening to 70s, 80s and 90s rock and country music by Chris Young, Brad Paisley, Florida Georgia Line and Billy Currington.
Mike Booth, Photographer: Watching “Leave It to Beaver,” “Andy Griffith,” “My Three Sons,” ”Bonanza,” “The Rifleman,” “Gunsmoke,” “I Love Lucy, “Wagon Train,” “The Waltons” and Rachel Madow.
Liz Kelly, Production Manager: I’m am pretty much cleaning, cooking and watching free previews on Comcast has on demand, “Outlander” and “War of the Worlds.”
Ellen Carroll, Editor: I guess I am thinking back to happier and more innocent times. I am listening to Joni Mitchell’s “Blue” and Willie Nelson CDs. Mostly am only watching Netflix. Loved “Ozark.” Watched all the new episodes and I like “Hunters” with Al Pacino. Had to see what “Tiger King” was all about. Started to watch it but I just didn’t get it.”
Denise Herschel, Reporter: I have a somewhat diverse taste in music. I have been listening to soulful singers like Whitney Houston, Chaka Khan and Mary J. Blige as well as 70’s and 80’s classic rock artists like Led Zeppelin, David Bowie and Stevie Nicks. And with all of the darkness and dread, I have found myself needing a good laugh so I have been watching Howard Stern celebrity and political interviews as well as classic sitcom shows like Two and a Half Men and Cheers.
Marianne Tantrum, Production: I finally finished binge watching five seasons of “Shitts Creek.” It was great. Short easy 20 minute or so episodes that were fun to watch. Eugene Levy and his (real life) son are great, although it must be said the entire ensemble are fantastic together. My next series was a promise to a friend to watch “Mad Men” which I have started to do beginning at Season 1. I have now completed two full seasons with still five to go. If I need a break from that, I will mix it up with “Outlander,” which my sister and an old friend have said is another great series.
Joanne Papaianni, Reporter: Being a natural news hound I am watching cable news for COVID-19 updates, especially the daily briefings by New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo. He’s informative and inspirational.NJ Governor Murphy also provides useful statistics and information in his daily briefings. And Dr. Anthony Fauci is not to be missed for his expertise and 35 years of experience in infectious disease. To relax I listen to my YouTube playlist with music selections across the decades, tunes from “Hamilton” and current hits from Ed Sheeran and his duets with Andrea Bocelli and others.
Chris Christopher, Sports Writer: I find myself watching lots of classic National Basketball Association playoffs stuff: 76ers-Lakers, Celtics-Lakers and Portland-76ers. I covered some of those games while writing for the Ocean County Observer. Great, great memories. I can’t wait for ESPN to air its documentary about Michael Jordan and the Bulls. Had the pleasure of interviewing Jordan, Rodman, etc. while I was with the Observer. I am also watching Yankees stuff on the YES Network–Oldtimers Day 2019, features on Reggie Jackson and George Steinbrenner. My love of police and hospital shows has been rekindled–The Rookie, Grey’s Anatomy, etc. I also listen to WFAN.
Pete Walton, Reporter: Verizon FiOS has gifted its subscribers with temporary access to many international TV channels, so I’ve been watching them. I only speak 1.5 languages so most of the time I don’t know what people are saying. I’ve been listening online to old time radio shows such as “Cloak and Dagger” and “I Was a Communist for the FBI.”
Steven Froias, Digital Manager: I am addicted to podcasts so keep up on national events with Pod Save America and international events with Pod Save The World. Each skews left, so for balance I listen to The Bulwark Podcast. To release my inner geek, I follow the Jeremy Brett Sherlock Holmes Podcast, and for a deep dive, the monumental The History of the Cold War Podcast has amazing detail. For pure fun, the No Sleep Podcast and The Rewatchables are great escape.
