Neptune police arrested a Brooklyn man and charged him with seven counts of burglary in Ocean Grove this month.
Police said Officer Matthew Simpson was conducting a follow up investigation into a motor vehicle burglary and fraudulent use of a credit card at the 7-Eleven, 31 South Main Street, Neptune. While doing so, he located and arrested suspect Christopher R. Leone, 34, of Brooklyn, NY who was in the store where the credit card was illegally used.
Leone was found to be in possession of suspected proceeds from multiple car burglaries.
A subsequent interview and investigation by Neptune police detectives resulted in Leone being charged with seven counts of burglary and theft to motor vehicles, one count of receiving stolen property and one count of fraudulent usage of a credit card.
Local police departments were notified of Leone’s arrest and have charged Leone similarly with crimes in their respective jurisdictions. It is believed all of these incidents involving Leone occurred between May 22 and May 26.
Leone was transported to Monmouth County Correctional Institution pending a detention hearing in accordance with bail reform.
All residents are reminded to lock their car doors at all times and leave valuables secured and out of sight.
