Mark your calendars for the upcoming “Save the Library Music Festival” scheduled for Sat., Aug. 14 from noon to 8 p.m. at the Sycamore Recreational Complex in Tinton Falls. As part of their fundraising efforts to reopen the Tinton Falls Public Library, the Tinton Falls Public Library Association is holding this event for the second time as a major fundraiser for the renovation of the borough library, which has been closed since August of 2017. Mold was discovered in the attached trailer, which was connected to the building in 2015, for use as office and meeting space.
“The First Music Festival was held in July 2019. The second was scheduled for 2020 but was cancelled due to the Covid pandemic. The festival was started as a major fundraiser for the renovation of the library,” said Ellen Goldberg, Tinton Falls Library Board member and volunteer. “The Board of Trustees initiated a fundraising committee to explore ways to raise funds while we waited to see if we received a matching grant from the New Jersey Matching Grant Fund.”
The music festival will feature at least five musical bands/singers, a variety of family/childrens’ games, a barbeque and beverages.
“It will be a wonderful day for all family members. Live music, food for purchase, games in the field like corn hole and giant Jenga and a beer garden for adults. Childens’ activities will include storytime and crafts, Book Bingo, and scavenger hunts,” said Alison DeVito, Tinton Falls Library Board of Trustees member and volunteer.
Goldberg said she anticipates approximately 400 people will attend the music festival and added that they are contemplating another fundraiser sometime next year.
“We have applied for the second round of grants from the matching grant fund and are awaiting to see if we are awarded any monies,” she said.
The Tinton Falls Public Library Association Board of Trustees announced that a grant application was submitted to the New Jersey Library Construction Bond Act on June 4, 2021. Funding decisions are expected in September.
The Music Festival Committee, Tinton Falls Department of Public Works and Tinton Falls Recreation Department have assisted with putting the upcoming event together. Tickets are $10 per person or $30 for a family of three or more. Admission price covers music, games and kids activities. Food, beverages and snacks are available at an additional charge.
