Asbury Park has been awarded up to $320,000 in funding by the New Jersey Board of Public Utilities to support the installation of electric vehicle chargers throughout the City as part of the New Jersey Electric Vehicle (EV) Tourism Program. The NJBPU received 94 grant applications and awarded more than $1 million in funding to 24 applicants for the installation of electric vehicle chargers at key tourist destinations across New Jersey.

New Jersey’s EV Tourism Program eliminates barriers to purchasing electric vehicles by investing in electric vehicle infrastructure and reducing range anxiety for residents and tourists visiting New Jersey. Expanding infrastructure across the state is critical to moving New Jersey closer to Governor Murphy’s goal of 330,000 EVs by 2025. Encouraging the use of Electric Vehicles is also an important part of reducing transportation emissions and achieving the Governor’s goal of 100 percent clean energy by 2050.

“We are incredibly thankful to the New Jersey Board of Public Utilities for helping promote a sustainable future for the State of New Jersey in providing these grants as part of the State’s Electric Vehicle Tourism Program,” said Mayor John Moor, “Asbury Park has led the charge along the Jersey Shore to help reduce our carbon footprint with electric vehicle charging stations. Not only do they serve as an amenity for visitors, but they improve accessibility for our residents throughout the City.”

“Providing additional electric charging vehicle stations will continue to lead to a reduction in vehicle emissions and help promote a greener future for Asbury Park,” said Acting Transportation Director James Bonanno, “Each year we see a growing number of electric vehicles in Asbury Park and we’re eager to provide our residents and visitors with the means to easily charge their vehicles.”
