On Tues., June 14, American Legion Post 346 of Neptune held its annual Flag Retirement Ceremony, involving the dignified burning of used, damaged, and soiled American Flags, many that flew over the graves of veterans.
Post Commander John Warhurst led the event, along with SAL Vice Commander Gary Crawford filling in as chaplain, along with Monmouth County DEC Wil Fetherman adding a few words to the ceremony. Color Guard Captain Paul Hulse commanded the Color Guard as Jim Struble, John Skislak, Dan Sanford, and Paul Williams fired a rifle volley. Monmouth County SAL Commander Carl Albern Jr. gave the bugle call “To the Colors” in tribute.
