In 2022, Asbury Park made arrangements to purchase a fire truck from Seagrave Fire Apparatus LLC but – according to City Council records – owing to “a severe shortage of materials and labor,” the delivery date for the truck has been delayed more than a year.
Seagrave came before the council and asked for another year as well as an additional $164,950 to get the custom fire truck ready to go. That will raise the total price to $1,814,550.
In the meantime, the fire company will be able to continue to borrow an existing aerial unit and will receive $5,000 in the form of a parts voucher.
The new delivery date is Jan. 31, 2024 and for every day beyond that date, Seagrave will pay a daily fine of $500.
