Porta, the popular restaurant and nightclub on Kingsley Street in Asbury Park, wants to expand with plans for a large tent for weddings and other events.
a Bocce Ball Court and fire pit as well as an expansion of its current dining area.
The plan, presented to the City Council Feb. 28, would increase the number of people that could be accommodated at any given time, according to Porta representative Jim Watt, who said it’s what iStar, the beachfront developer has been seeking.
“More people want to be here,” Watt said. “We need more large event spaces.”
The plan also calls for a bocce court, a fire pit and expansion of the current dining area.
The big item in the plan is a tent with a capacity of 200. Watt said the tent is actually insulated prefab panels that keeps the sound of music inside.
“There would be no outside music under this plan. Totally separate from the Porta restaurant, and no late night activity,” he said.
Owners are also working on a valet parking plan and a “Porta to Go” that would make use of a bungalow at the corner of First Avenue and Kingsley Street.
