About 50 people showed up for the first of two recruiting sessions being held by Sage Hospitality, the company that is now managing the businesses owned by iStar, the Asbury Park beachfront redevelopment company.
Since 2021 Sage Hospitality has managed the Asbury Lanes Bowling Alley and Concert Venue, The Asbury Hotel and The Asbury Ocean Club according to Amy Cowley, area director of people and culture for Sage Hospitality, which is based in Denver, Colorado. Cowley and her team set up shop inside Asbury Lanes and met with about 50 people looking for work in Asbury Park. Cowley said.the company was pleased with the turnout.
“People want to come here, and to work here” Cowley said, adding “the city’s history is what sells the city and people like the.overall community involvement.”
Applicants had to complete an application and then meet with Sage representatives. Cowley said 20 people were offered positions immediately. The positions are varied, some are full time, some are part time and seasonal with competitive pay and benefits.
Sage employs approximately 300 people at the three businesses in Asbury Park, at all levels and the requirements vary. Some positions require only a high school diploma while others may require a bachelors degree or even a masters. Cowley said men outnumbered women, and most of the applicants were in their early to mid-20s. Several had references from current Sage Hospitality employees.
Sage also offers internships for students looking for careers in areas like music and events. Sage recruiters also visit college campuses during the year for interviews. A second local Job Fair is scheduled for Tues., April 23 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Asbury Hotel, 210 Fifth Ave.
Community involvement is important and Sage Hospitality plans a beach clean-up on the Asbury Park beach in May. Cowley also disclosed a new addition to the hospitality offerings this year – a food truck that will open for business outside the Asbury Hotel.
